Faculty/Staff Scott Beach, PhD
Scott Beach received his PhD in social psychology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993. Since that time, he has been a senior research associate at the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR) and was appointed director of the Survey Research Program in 1999.
As director, Beach oversees day-to-day operations of a 24-bank computer-assisted telephone interviewing facility and supervises seven professional staff members. Survey projects at UCSUR generally involve large, complex data sets; have been conducted with general community samples, special populations, and organizations; and have focused primarily on physical and mental health issues.
Beach has been involved in all phases of the survey research process, including overall research design, sample design, questionnaire development, data analysis, and report writing.
In July 2000, Beach received a secondary appointment as an assistant professor in the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences, where he teaches a course on health survey methods.
In addition to his interest in survey methodology, he has interests and has published in areas such as aging and caregiver stress, criminal victimization, and child development.
