My research interests include evaluation, prevention science, behavioral epidemiology, and Global Health. Currently, with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation of the American Academy of Pediatrics, I am conducting a scientific evaluation to determine the outcomes of an intervention to help pediatricians prevent child abuse and neglect. The research is based on complexity science and includes quantitative and qualitative methods. I have published a paper on a study of HIV infected pregnant women to determine their rates of treatment and to identify factors predictive of treatment. My Global health interests include a project in Croatia. I’ve traveled extensively to Croatia to implement and evaluate an adolescent alcohol prevention intervention in the city of Split, Croatia. I have also spent time in the Dominican Republic with Medical and Graduate Students from the U.S. where we worked in Haitian refugee communities providing food, medical care and health education. My other research interest includes the measurement of stress and socioeconomic factors as they effect pregnancy outcomes. Most recently I have become a co-investigator of the National Children's Study. All of my interests are grounded in a commitment to work within the framework of community participation and the elimination of disparities whether on the local, state, national or international level.
TEACHING
I teach courses on evaluation research for doctoral students, health program evaluation, maternal child health, and global health.
